COVID Update

With COVID increasing in our area, we encourage anyone who is not feeling well to please stay home.  Our Governor mandated that masks be worn indoors in public places. We acknowledge we are to obey our governmental authorities as explained in Romans 13 and I Peter 2 except where they are asking us to do something specifically against Scripture. So how does this mandate impact us?  Thankfully because of the religious freedom we enjoy, churches are treated differently. While Illinois strongly encourages churches to follow the IDPH guidelines, we are not mandated.  In light of this, people will differ in their interpretation of what this means to respect authority.  Romans 14 speaks about individual convictions and we are not to judge each other.  There will be some of us who have a conviction to wear masks and some of us who will not. There will be some of us who will shake hands and some of us who will not.  Romans 14:17 states:   “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink (or in this case masks, or shaking hands) but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”  Because we are followers of Jesus, He calls us to a relationship beyond just respect.  Let’s remember the greatest commandment:

Matthew 22: 37-40 …..Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

John 13:34-35  A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
