6/29/14 Announcements

Sunday 6/29 - Sunday School Picnic at the Roanoke Park at 4:00 - Meat, drink and tableware will be provided.  Please bring a covered dish to share.

Monday 6/30 - Local World Relief Project - Starting Monday June 30th continuing through July 3rd. We will be working with several other churches to remodel a home for the pregnancy center in Pontiac. Work will begin at 8 am each day at 304 Renolds St. If you can help or have any questions contact Bro. Jim Braker at 309-678-4620. A copy of this notice is posted on the bulletin board.

Tuesday 7/1 - Helping Hands is from 9:00 - 12:00 - They plan to make more comforters for Haiti.

Sunday 7/6 - Servant Fund Collection - Please make checks payable to the Apostolic Christian Church with Servant Fund in the memo.

Friday 8/8 - Brotherhood Conference in Lester Iowa - If you plan attending the Brotherhood Conference please sign up on the bulletin board by today.

Saturday 8/23 - Nursing Home Benefit - There are forms located on the two bulletin boards to fill out if you are able to donate a new item or service for the auction.  It is beneficial to advertise these items ahead of time, so please have your donation forms turned in by July 13.

Mission/Work Opportunities
  • Roanoke Nursing Home - The Home currently has positions open for nurses. If you know of anyone who is interested please apply online or contact Bro. Richard Isaiah or Sis. Megan Hodel.
  • Gateway Woods Openings - There are job openings for alternate houseparents, a teacher, a foster care case manager and a homebased worker.  Additional information is posted on the bulletin board.

Gateway Woods Auction - The Gateway Woods Auction is one month away.  Please have auction items to Bro. Brad or Sis. Patty Hodel by July 26th.  Cash donations need to be in by July 19th to allow staff members time to purchase items for the sale.  Thank you for supporting the children of Gateway Woods.

Conference CD - Whoever borrowed the conference CD's from last years conference please return them to Bro. Tom if you are finished. There is someone wishing to use them.

Sunday 6/22 - Bible Fund Collection - Please make checks out to the Apostolic Christian Church with Bible Fund on the memo line.


Saturday 6/28 - Tornado Cleanup in Washington - We would like to put together a group from Roanoke for help in Washington.  The work will consist of walking yards and cleaning up small pieces of debris so this would fit almost anyone capable.  Volunteers must be 14 years or older.  The group will be meeting at church at 7AM on that day.  Please contact Bro. Jonathan Hodel if you are able to attend.


Sunday 6/29 - Senior Breakfast at the Fellowship Hall at 8:30 -  All Bible Class students, converted seniors, parents of seniors, Bible class teachers and their wives are invited to attend.

Wednesday 6/18
  • World Relief Child Sponsorship Program at the Fellowship Hall at 7:00 PM - This is in lieu of our regular Wednesday night service.  The current 3 yr. old through 2nd grade Sunday School classes will be singing beforehand, and families are strongly encouraged to attend.  
  • Worship on Wednesday for High School Students at 7:00 PM- They will meet at Bro. Scott and Sis. Bev Luginbhul’s home.   After the regular evening schedule, there will be outdoor activities until 10PM, weather permitting.

Tuesday 6/10 - Helping Hands from 9:00 -12:00  


Friday 6/13 - Father-Son Campout at Comlara Park - The camp will be at the group MRO (same place as last year). There are no age restrictions.  If your father or son is unable to attend, you are still welcome to come fellowship.  If you are uncomfortable sleeping at the campsite overnight, come for the evening and return for breakfast.  If you have any questions, please contact Bro. Robey Shuck.


Wednesday 6/18 - World Relief will be presenting information regarding its Child Sponsorship Program at the Fellowship Hall.  The current 3 yr. old through 2nd grade Sunday School classes will be singing beforehand, and families are strongly encouraged to attend.  Start time is 7:00 p.m.


Saturday 8/2 - Gateway Woods Auction - Each year thousands of items are sold, and organizers appreciate early donations to help alleviate the flood of items that come just before the sale.  If you have a unique item that could be used to help promote the Sale, the deadline for including those items in the Gate Post Auction Flyer is June 13th.  Check the bulletin board or contact Bro. Brad or Sis. Patty Hodel for more information.

Thank You - Thank you for your  generous donations for the Hospital Lumiere household  item collection. We collected  15-- 32 gallon  tubs full to send on the next sea container. Your love & support is so appreciated.

Jr. Volunteer Summer Program - The Nursing Home is again offering the Jr. Volunteer program to start for the summer.  Please call the nursing home if you have a student 6th grade or older that would be interested in volunteering this summer.

VBS at 7:00 Monday 6/2 - Friday 6/6
  • Monday Night the children will meet in the church basement as usual, but the High School students and adults will meet at the Fellowship Hall.
  • SIgn Up Sheets are posted on the bulletin board for the following:
    • Food
    • Table Waiters - Table waitresses are not needed for Monday since we will be at the F.H.
  • VBS Collections
    • Raise a Roof for Haiti - Money collected during VBS will be used to put a roof on a school or church project that Bro. Scott Yordy has oversight of
    • Collection of New and Gently Used Household Items -  During VBS there will also be a collection of household items for the Haitian workers at Bonn Finn hospital. Items such as bedding, bowls, cups and saucers, silverware, battery clocks, towels are an idea. The missionaries have a "tag sale" 2 or 3 times a year for the workers to help out with the meager incomes the workers earn. Boxes will be in the foyers during VBS to collect these items. Fellowship Hall Chairs -  If you are interested in obtaining some of gray, padded, stackable chairs from the Fellowship Hall,  contact Bro. Russ Leman.  There is no charge for the chairs, but donations would be appreciated.
